Coach Kevin started coaching with 312 in 2017!
At the same time, he became the St. Patrick High School varsity assistant coach. In his time as the assistant coach, the Shamrocks won five regional team titles and produced twenty-five IHSA state qualifiers, nine of whom placed in the state finals.
Prior to coaching at 312 Wrestling and St. Patrick High School, Coach Hawkins teamed up with Head Coach Dominic Angelo at St. Ignatius from 2013-2015. In his two-year tenure, the Wolf pack qualified two individual wrestlers for the state finals and had their highest team finish in the school history at the CCL conference tournament.
During his time as a wrestler, Coach Hawkins wrestled with St Patrick High School Head Coach Dominic Angelo and was part of the Shamrocks’ best team finish in the school’s history, winning the team Regional and Sectional Championship and making it the Elite Eight in Illinois. Coach Hawkins placed in the prestigious Dvorak tournament, won an individual regional title and qualified for the IHSA state finals. The extraordinary success of the 2003 squad resulted in the team’s induction into the Shamrock Hall of Fame.
Coach Hawkins continued his wrestling career at Triton College where he served as team captain. After completing his studies at Triton, Coach Hawkins transferred to McKendree University, where for a second time, he teamed with Dominic Angelo as they both wrestled for the Bearcats.
After college, Coach Hawkins continued his grappling career, competing in No-Gi jujitsu. Coach Hawkins trained out of Tenth Planet under Josh Passini. There, he won multiple events including the North American Grappling Association No-GI division.
Currently, Coach Hawkins is a veteran detective with the Chicago Police department and is currently assigned to the Homicide division. Coach Hawkins also served as a grenadier in the 178th infantry.
Coach Hawkins married in 2016. He and his wife, Cristina, have two daughters, Elizabeth and Elena, and a son, Kevin.
